dr_sonkiss_photo_smWe’re happy to welcome Joshua Sonkiss, MD, as editor-in-chief of The Carlat Addiction Treatment Report. Dr. Sonkiss is a board-certified forensic psychiatrist with a wide range of experience in substance abuse treatment. He completed undergraduate training at the University of Alaska, went to medical school at McGill University in Montreal, and completed residency at the University of Utah. After his forensic training at the University of Rochester, he returned to Alaska, where he’s provided psychiatric and addiction treatment in inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings as well as in some of the state’s most remote, roadless communities.

He is past president of the Alaska Psychiatric Association, a member of the organization’s CME committee, and has received awards for teaching and advocacy. Currently he divides his time between Fairbanks Community Mental Health Services, a community mental health center; and Turning Point Counseling, a clinic specializing in substance abuse treatment. He’s also an advisor to the Alaska Opioid Policy Task Force.
