After reading these articles, you should be able to:

  1. Identify unique vulnerabilities and forms of elder abuse affecting LGBTQIA+ older adults and implement culturally competent clinical approaches.
  2. Distinguish between expressions of distress and true suicidal intent in older adults and apply evidence-based assessment strategies and clinical responses to suicidal ideation in the context of terminal illness.
  3. Recognize borderline personality disorder in older adults and implement appropriate screening, medication rationalization, and therapeutic approaches for this population.
  4. Apply safe opioid prescribing practices in older adults with renal or hepatic impairment.
  5. Assess firearm safety risks in older adults.
  6. Summarize some of the findings in the literature regarding psychiatric treatment.
