Joshua D. Feder, MD.

In this issue we focus on obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). You need to know how exposure and response prevention works because tolerating anxiety is the key to effective treatment of OCD. But OCD comes with co-occurring conditions. We help you think through how to approach these complicated combinations.

Most of us rely at times on antipsychotic medications, but the metabolic and neurologic side effects beg for tapering and discontinuation whenever possible. How do you taper? Read and learn.

Have you used much lithium in kids and teens? It may be a helpful maneuver when you would otherwise be at a dead end.

We are also continuing to track the tsunami of opioid and opioid-like compounds swamping our teen populations. Narcan is necessary, but it’s not enough. Ask about use and warn every teen and their parents not to trust street drugs or pills. Their lives may depend on our strident cautions.
