After reading these articles, you should be able to:

  1. Integrate evidence-based strategies for screening, prevention, and referral of patients with substance use disorders who are at risk for or diagnosed with hepatitis B and C, with emphasis on early detection and coordination with hepatology care.

  2. Evaluate and manage oral health complications related to substance use by conducting appropriate screenings, providing basic dental education, and identifying when to refer patients for urgent or routine dental care.

  3. Recognize the clinical presentation and pathophysiological mechanisms of xylazine-associated wounds in individuals who use opioids, and implement harm reduction-based strategies and conservative wound care practices.

  4. Assess the emerging role of GLP-1 receptor agonists in the treatment of substance use disorders, particularly in patients with comorbid obesity or diabetes, and apply current evidence to determine appropriate adjunctive use in clinical practice.

  5. Summarize some of the findings in the literature regarding psychiatric treatment.
